Want a Free Fluoride Treatment In Greater Heights? Just Schedule a Checkup!
April 14, 2019
Everyone would agree that the less time they spend getting dental work, the better. While good oral hygiene habits, a low-sugar diet, and regular checkups are all effective means for prevention, there’s one more thing you can do that’s incredibly effective for preventing cavities: Get a fluoride treatment in Greater Heights. Keep reading to learn more about the benefits of fluoride and how you can get a free fluoride treatment that will start preventing tooth decay immediately!
What Is Fluoride and What Are the Benefits?
Your teeth are mostly made of various minerals, including calcium and phosphate. This makes them incredibly hard and dense. In fact, your enamel is the hardest substance in your body; even harder than your bones.
Unfortunately, that doesn’t mean teeth are indestructible. Cavity-causing bacteria in your mouth produce acid that wears away at your enamel, much the same way acid rain wears away marble or stone.
Fluoride is a naturally-occurring mineral. Just like calcium strengthens your bones, fluoride strengthens your teeth by making your enamel tougher and harder.
It can also reverse small cavities that haven’t progressed past the enamel layer of your teeth, if they’re caught in time. This is what makes a fluoride treatment such a powerful tool for prevention!
How Does a Fluoride Treatment Work?
There are various types of fluoride treatments. We’ve chosen Prevident fluoride varnish because it remains on the teeth much longer than a 2-minute foam treatment. For the entire duration that the varnish is on your teeth, it’s releasing a powerful “dose” of fluoride, making it incredibly effective.
Applying the varnish can be done in just a minute or two after your dental cleaning. You’ll be able to feel a thin coating on your teeth but, since it’s tooth-colored, it won’t be very noticeable to other people.
It should remain on the teeth for 6 hours. The after-care instructions are very easy and will ensure that the varnish is effective:
- Don’t brush your teeth for at least 6 hours.
- Only eat soft foods for at least 2 hours.
- Don’t consume any hot beverages or alcohol (including mouthwashes) for at least 6 hours.
- Wait until the next day to resume normal oral hygiene.
If you still feel any of the varnish the next day, a thorough brushing and flossing will remove it and your teeth will look and feel normal.
